The main symptoms of endometriosis, also the best known, are: intensely painful periods (dysmenorrhea) and heavy periods (menorrhagia), but there are many others. It is important to identify them and correlate them with other signals that may suggest endometriosis, as soon as possible!

Let's start at the beginning of the story...

1) Period pain (dysmenorrhea)

Menstrual pain is very common in a woman during the installation of the hormonal cycle. These pains are considered normal if they are not very intense (<6 out of 10).
Conversely, intense pain (greater than 6 on a scale of 10) should be a concern, and may be linked to a health problem. The intensity of menstrual pain can also cause digestive and urinary disorders, and even other more general symptoms due to its deep, cyclical and intimate nature (malaise, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, etc.).

2) Menorrhagia-metrorrhagia… or more simply heavy bleeding

Abundant bleeding during and outside periods are also frequent symptoms noted during a constant or temporary hormonal imbalance. Abundant bleeding associated with menstrual pain often evoke the presence of endometriosis inside the uterus: adenomyosis. It can be identified at all ages. It is a very important symptom in the diagnosis of endometriosis that it is necessary to evaluate.

3) Fertility disorders

Infertility can be defined more simply than it seems: it is the absence of pregnancy during one year of sexual intercourse without contraception.

This is one of the most well-known repercussions of the disease, thus helping to convey the received idea that it is systematic: it is FALSE.

The infertility of a possible symptom of endometriosis, especially when this infertility is associated with pain, but a majority of women with endometriosis are not confronted with it: it is estimated from 25% to 40% the proportion women with endometriosis with fertility disorders. However, endometriosis remains one of the leading causes of infertility in women.

Difficulty conceiving and/or miscarriages are symptoms that must absolutely be addressed in a reproductive medicine consultation, to bring patients to make a diagnosis of endometriosis before any treatment for the conception of a child.
